Whale Watch 2010

High Point Regional Science Department is proud to announce its twelfth annual Whale Watch Trip to Cape Cod.  This trip is open to students in College Prep Biology B, College Prep Biology A and Honors Classes. The cost is $310.00 per person. This includes transportation, lodging, all meals (9), snacks and admissions.  There is a limit of 50 students plus 5 teachers for this trip. The nature of this weekend is science oriented; therefore, only serious science students should attend.
Each applicant must meet the following criteria in order to be eligible to attend:

1. "80" average in any level of Science after 3 marking Periods and Mid Terms
2. Passing all other classes.
3. Not more than 10 absences
4. No school detentions or suspensions from school

If a student does not meet all of the requirements, they will forfeit their spot. Applications will be accepted beginning on Monday, December 7th and end on Tuesday, December 22nd.  Application papers must be filled out entirely and accompanied by a $50 deposit (checks payable to HPRHS) in order to be accepted. If there are more than 50 eligible students after the third marking period, a lottery will take place to determine the participants. All others who are eligible will remain on a waiting list. Deposit money will be refunded if you do not attend the trip.

Saturday, May 1st Desposit of $50 due at registration
Sunday, May 2nd Balance of $260 due on April 14th
Time: 6AM Friday, April 30th to 9PM Sunday, May 2nd
Trip Meeting:  April 14th   7-8:30pm --- H.P. Cafe Annex
ALL STUDENTS GOING ON THIS TRIP MUST ATTEND THIS MEETING ACCOMPANIED BY A PARENT.

At This Meeting: 
We will go over the itinerary, clothing list, rules, consequences, and answer any questions that you may have.

Includes  On the trip, the students will study the history of whales and whaling, board a whaling ship, examine whalebones, and experience whale watching first hand.  Other highlights include an exploration of the salt marshes of Cape Cod and a dunes tour that will enable students to learn of the important role that the dunes play in preserving the mainland.  When not participating in these activities, students will be provided many other enjoyable activities such as bowling and indoor swimming.
