Core Content Standards

Core Curriculum Content Standards

In July 2002, New Jersey adopted a revised set of Core Curriculum Content Curriculum Standards (CCCS) for all subjects that children learn in school. Developed by a committee composed of New Jersey elementary, middle school, and secondary teachers, supervisors, administrators, college mathematics educators, mathematicians, and representatives of business and industry, the New Jersey Mathematics Standards consist of five statements which describe what is essential to mathematics education. Each statement is further subdivided into 3-6 strands, which is then descriped by 3-10 indicators, which give a more detailed description of the standard. The Mathematics Standards are based on the premises that all students can learn mathematics and that all students need to learn mathematics. They are intended to provide a clear vision of exemplary mathematics learning and to define and articulate the topics necessary for achieving quality mathematics education. They set high achievable expectations for all students.

The main topics are listes below. You may view the CCCS in more detail at http://www.nj.gov/njded/cccs/02/s4_math.htm.
